Eksistensi Gendang Bone di Dunia Maya

Abstract

This research aims to explore the presence of gendang Bone music on social media. Gendang Bone is a traditional art form South Sulawesi, specifically in Watampone and its surrounding areas, which people use in various social and ritual contexts. Given the advancement of technology nowadays, we can no longer consider digital or virtual reality as mere pseudo-realities; rather, they have become integral parts of our daily lives in the real world—a space where people socialize, share, and receive information in vast and fast way. What happens in the virtual world impacts the real world. Based on this understanding, the researcher aims to uncover how the existence of gendang Bone is manifested in virtual reality. Using netnography, this study explains how gendang Bone is presented, shared, and appreciated on virtual platforms such as social media. The findings reveal that there is abundant content about gendang Bone on the internet, shared by both individual and community accounts across various digital platforms, receiving positive responses from netizens in the comment sections. This phenomenon illustrates the efforts of the gendang Bone community to preserve, promote, and adapt their tradition to remain relevant today.
